The pandemic has changed my life in many ways I had not expected. Taking care of my husband, in particular, proved to be a challenge during this time. Learning how to interact with him during the shelter in place order was a new experience.
He has been struggling with multiple health issues in his old age. His diabetes led to complications which effected his toes and feet first. The doctor tried various methods of treatment, online meetings, eventually, we were told to even get ready for amputation.
I said firmly to doctor, “Give me one month, I am going to try my own way to heal him.”
I am a strong believer in homeopathic medicine. The book “Water of Crystallization” first came to my mind. Every day, I used H2o2 and Betadine to clean his wounds thoroughly, then I put an infrared heat lamp to warm up his toes fifteen minutes, after that, put the Chinese herb medicine wrapped with gauze, and before I went to bed, I used the magic words: “I love you.” to every single toes. Miraculously, all the toes got better each time when we saw doctor online and after three months later, they were healed completely.
“I can not argue with success!” The doctor said with a surprised expression over the cell phone screen. He praised me heartily and gave me a sense of achievement.
The whole process of the foot treatment made me think, if I can heal such vicious wounds with love and patience, maybe I can use the same method to communicate with my husband since communication is our weakest point and we were forced to be isolated at home.
When I opened my mind and accepted the differences in between, things became much easier than I thought. I’ve learned how to listen instead of talk, practice empathy instead of jump to conclusions and gave him the stage when the circumstances were not important for my mental energy.
Love conquers everything. If we are compassionate, take time to understand and love while facing challenges, then behind every crises is actually an opportunity.
