The most difficult part of this experience has been dealing with people’s differing responses to the health information we’ve been given by the county. We are told to wear masks in certain situations; what do you do when people aren’t abiding by the rules? My husband and I have wanted to support local businesses, so have ordered takeout food several times instead of cooking at home. Two out of four times, the people handling our food were not wearing masks. This disincentivizes us to support local businesses :(. A few months have gone by and things are starting to open up. We went berry picking a couple days ago at a you-pick farm. I was dismayed to see that maybe 1/4 of the people were not following the guidelines. So it’s back home we go, now worried that we may have been unnecessarily put in danger. It makes me sad. We can only be as healthy and social as our least careful people allow. I don’t think those people realize how their actions (“I don’t like wearing a mask, so I won’t”) hurt the rest of us. This pandemic is going to keep going and we will need to stay closed up for longer, I fear, due to ignorance and inconsideration. It hurts my heart.
