A Letter to Emily Dickinson

April 30, 2020

Welcome to 2020,
This spring may be the best time to visit us
we all stay at home
and we have time to read and write

Welcome to California,
life will be so different
There is no unique
definition of beauty
The world has became
more tolerant
everyone is accepted
no matter how different they are

Please sit in the couch near the window
the Irises grow crazy in my front yard
the twisted purple petals
seems to try to catch all the sunlight
feel free to pick flowers
take a walk in the garden

My fiery inner voice
I always want to be heard
but you don’t mind
you write only for yourself

I know you don’t want to be disturbed
I respect and appreciate
the peculiar quality
and aroma of your nature
I don’t talk too much either
I understand
“saying nothing
sometimes
says the most”

I know you are hiding within a flower
“patron saint of shy persons”
If you receive this letter
Please wave your petals slightly
When I stand in the garden
under the sunset
